Welcome Baby Gabriel! - South Orange NJ Newborn Photographer

In-home Newborn Photography session - love and excitement of bringing Baby Gabriel into this beautiful family.

This adorable baby boy joined his parents and his big brother Max in South Orange NJ. If you’re wondering what my Newborn Plus sessions look like, Baby Gabriel’s session is a great example. In these sessions, I combine lifestyle family photography with some posed styled setups to feature your newest LO. This combination of baby photography requires a longer time frame (about 3-4 hours) because of the extra props and time it takes to set everything up, and to get the Baby into a cozy sleepy state.

Gabriel was champ for his Baby portraits!

Lifestyle family photography allows me the opportunity to capture families in their own space, surrounded by things they treasure and the personal touches they brought to their home. I love finding the perfect pockets of light and cozy nooks we can use for this portion of the family photos.

All the snuggles, kisses and tickles are captured within these fleeting family moments. The legacy of these images is undeniable and I can easily see these photos in a cherished album and on the walls of their home...

I so love this portrait of Mom and Baby Gabriel below. Mom had no idea the baby was cracking a smile for me! And the precious nose-to-nose with Dad… And big brother kissing the top of Baby’s head - such priceless moments to cherish!

The timeless simplicity of the black and white images often takes my breath away. There’s nothing to distract you from that moment - it’s frozen in time and it’s forever.

Sweet Newborn Photography Session in Maplewood NJ | Welcome Baby Eliza

In-Home Newborn Photography in Maplewood NJ

I got to photograph Baby Eliza on International Women’s Day, right before the lockdown went into effect in the NYC metro area. On that day, we had no idea how our lives would change in the next few weeks and months…

Eliza was a bit fussy but I was able to rock and soothe her for the posing part of our session, She peacefully settled into sleepy coziness. Here are some images from this beautiful baby girl’s photography session:

How To Find The Best Newborn Photographer For Your Family

As a professional newborn photographer, I often get asked about how I get babies to settle down during my sessions. Parents are often in awe of how their fussy babies sleep through the posing and handling.

While many factors come into play in any newborn photoshoot, the big secret to a successful newborn photography session lies in the skills and experience a Baby photographer like me constantly works to acquire and refine. Countless hours of training and practice go into becoming a skilled newborn photographer. After all, every new parent wants to hire only the best, right? To me, that means finding a professional who’s knowledgeable about newborn safety, lighting, wrapping, posing, and other aspects of this genre. Even after several years of photographing babies, I still learn something new with every session and every Baby - they’re all unique.

My advice to any parent looking to book the best newborn photographer for their new bundle of joy is to do thorough research and compare portfolios. Every newborn photographer comes with a different set of skills - both in photography and editing. Select your photographer based on the desired aesthetic and make sure to communicate your goals and wishes to them to see if it’s the right fit.

Brand New Twin Brothers Steal Photographer's Heart! Newborn Photography South Orange NJ

In-Home Newborn Photography Session - TWINS!

The only thing better than one brand new Baby Boy is TWO brand new Baby Boys! I got to snuggle and photograph twin brothers James and Blake after they arrived home and the family was starting to settle into their new routine.

Posing two babies instead of one certainly comes with a few challenges but the twins were good sports throughout the session, and I was able to pose them in the natural light in their nursery. It was so amazing to see how they were cozying up to each other and kind of naturally posing themselves. With just a little bit of gentle posing, they slept snuggled to each other most of their session.

nj newborn photographer south orange nj natalia ladden photography.jpg

Join me for this 90-minute Mommy and Me workshop and learn how to take amazing photos of your Baby!

Our Babies are super cute and growing way too fast! Documenting these precious days is something you’ll never ever regret! And because you are (most likely) the dedicated day-to-day Baby photographer in your household, wouldn’t you want to learn some secrets from a professional newborn and child photographer?

No fancy equipment is required for this workshop because this is not a learn-how-to-use-your-camera kind of class. Instead, I’ll be sharing tips, mistakes to avoid, and some of my pro tricks with you while you use your camera-enabled smart phone for your practice shots. Of course, most principles can be applied to photos taken with any other camera.

This workshop will be broken down into two parts:

  1. Baby-”free” learning session*

  2. Hands-on practice with your Baby

*A babysitter will be available to assist with babies while you learn :)

I know how challenging it is to stay focused on learning with your LO in the room, so I will bring in a babysitter and provide a safe playroom for your babies to explore and enjoy while we focus on the first part of our workshop.

This event will be held in my home. I will follow up with the exact location and more details closer to the workshop date.

Date: March 2, 2019

Please note:

  • this specific workshop is limited to Babies who up to 10 months old (non-walkers)

  • there’s a 4 participant minimum for this class to run

  • limited to 7 moms

  • In case of inclement weather or my illness, I will work with the entire group to reschedule

Welcome Baby Alexandra! - West Orange NJ Newborn Photographer

In-Home Newborn Photography Session in West Orange NJ

I got to meet and photograph this West Orange NJ family after they welcomed Baby Alexandra into their family.

These sisters were adorable but Baby Alexandra absolutely refused to sleep for most of her newborn photos… And that’s okay! As a newborn photographer, I do come across some babies who have a tough time settling, for various reasons. Babies go through so many adjustments in their first days, and it’s completely okay for them to be awake when I arrive.

My approach to newborn photography is baby-led and in cases like this, I start with family and sibling poses before setting up any solo shots of the newborn. I find that many babies will settle and eventually get tired enough to fall asleep.

Because I photograph most of my family portraits with swaddled babies, new parents are often amazed at my swaddling techniques and cannot believe how easily their fussy newborn settles. And I agree that swaddling abilities are a very important factor when hiring a newborn photographer. You do want a professional who has the proper knowledge, training and experience with newborn safety, wrapping and posing. It makes all the difference in the outcome of your session and keeps your baby safe during their photoshoot.

Baby Alexandra eventually started dozing off as her sister held her - so sweet :)
